Fourth Grade Curriculum

Language Arts

Students will be exposed to a variety of good literature through basal readers, novels, poetry and other forms of material.  Students will increase reading and comprehension skills which will enable them to think logically.  The study of grammar, good sentence structure, research, reports and various writing experiences  will help develop ways to express themselves clearly and creatively  in both written and oral  language.

Math

The student will develop life skills while learning basic multiplication and division with a review of addition and subtractions facts.  Included in this study are fractions, decimals, making reasonable estimates for whole number computations, collecting, organizing and using data to create charts, graphs, and tables.  Many different hands-on methods and manipulatives are used to measure, explore geometric shapes, and make predictions in order to continue to take the students from concrete to more abstract learning.

Social Studies

Students will gain skills in geography study/map skills by tracking the growth of the United States from beginning to the present.  The study of people who have helped develop the United States will help the student make a personal connection to his/her citizenship.  A timeline is included in this work along with states and their capitals.

Science

Students will continue to explore God’s World with studies of insects, Plants, Birds, Matter, Energy,  Geology, Oceanography and Astronomy.  Field trips, research, and hands on experiments, are some of the ways we increase our knowledge while trying to understand God’s World.

Bible

The fourth grade Biblical Choices Curriculum takes students through a study of the history of the major and minor prophets and their influence on the people that God spoke to- through them.  The second half of their studies take the students through Paul’s Missionary journeys and leads into the responses we should make to God’s commands in order for us to be servants to our world.
